About the National 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours:

We are specialists in bespoke private tours. Contact us if you would like to discuss.

The National 3 Peaks Challenge is the iconic attempt to climb all 3 of the UK’s highest peaks one after another. Ben Nevis in Scotland at 1345 meters. Scafell Pike, England 978 meters and finally Snowdon, Wales 1085 meters.

This trip aims to complete this hike in a 24-hour window. The total distance we will cover is around 26 miles with about 3400 meters of ascent.

We undertake this event in fast, comfortable, air conditioned 8 seater MPV’s. Why choose a minibus? You’ll likely only do this event once so do it in style!

We offer alternative routes, North to South and South to North for example and also different durations based on your group – 3 day example itinerary HERE. We are happy to arrange bespoke events for groups of 7 or more, just give us a call to discuss any ideas you have.

North to South: We travel to Fort William in Scotland on day 1, starting our challenge with Ben Nevis on the morning of day 2, followed by Scafell Pike later that night and then finishing with a morning climb of Snowdon on the third day.

If you want to officially complete the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours, we would expect the following – Summit Snowdon in 4 hours, Scafell Pike in 4 1/2 hours and Ben Nevis in 5 1/2 hours allowing for 10 hours of driving completes the successful challenge.

Advocate Events have over 15 years of experience taking small groups on this challenge and will be with you every step of the way. You will deal with a member of our excellent team from initial enquiry all the way through to every summit.

Our unwavering commitment and hands on service makes us stand out from the crowd and ensures your experience is not only exceptional but also prioritises safety and enjoyment.

Kind words from fellow adventurers

Frequently asked questions…

How big will the group be?

We operate small-group adventures and will normally have between 5 and 8 participants on this event.

Who can take part in the Three Peaks Challenge?

The Three Peaks Challenge is open to people of all ages and abilities. The minimum
age to take part is 16 years, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied at
all times by a responsible adult. We request that there is at least one adult present
for every two participants under 18.

What is the pace of the hike?

The pace on the 24-hour 3 peaks is brisk as we are on the clock every step of the way. It’s important to be able to safely achieve each summit within 4-6 hours to stay on course for the 24-hour target.

Fitness is key for this challenge if you have not prepared then the pace may catch you out. We will work with each individual participant to ensure they have a training plan to suit.

Can I take my dog on the challenge?

Unfortunately not…whilst we are dog lovers here at Advocate Events and are working
on dog related events we have to consider all participants who may not wish to share
a minibus with our canine friends!

How many Mountain Leaders in the group?

We have 1 mountain leader for every 10 people. You may ask, what if someone needed to come down the mountain early? In our experience, the main reason for someone not to reach the peak is down to fitness level, and in most cases, they are happy to walk back at their own pace.

Where this is not possible our driver will normally come up to meet the individual and escort them down.

Where injuries are involved your mountain leader will decide for the group based on the information at the time.

To date we have never had a group unable to summit a mountain due to someone having to come down the mountain early.

What level of fitness do I need for this challenge?

A reasonable level of fitness is required to complete the 3 peaks in 24 hours. We will give individual advice to hikers based on their current level of fitness.

You will have a much more enjoyable time if you have a good level of fitness. Walking, running, swimming and of course hiking are all good ways of building up your cardiovascular fitness and will get you ready for this adventure.

Make sure you test your fitness on a practice hike like Snowden, if you can comfortably complete this in 4 hours you’re ready.

What support is available for this event?

Advocate Events staff will meet you at the agreed pickup point and will be with you
for the duration of the event.

Our Mountain Leaders are fully qualified, vastly experienced and great company. They are also trained first aiders. You will also have full support on the ground during the event. Advocate Events staff have organised and participated in many 3 Peaks Challenges so rest assured you are in safe hands!

Although the event is designed to challenge you, we will not put anyone’s safety at risk and support will be available at all times. The Advocate Events team is on hand every step of the way, to help and advise you.

We will also accompany you on your return to an agreed drop off point after your challenge.

How far will I be travelling during the event?

From the moment we pick you up at Birmingham International Train Station you will be travelling approximately 600 miles by road. Add in your train journey and travel home and you will be travelling approximately 1200 miles during your challenge.

Are there toilet facilities on the mountains?

There are facilities at the base of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and a cafe at
the top of Snowdon (if open). If you are caught short on the mountains our guides will
discreetly show you where to go!

What is the terrain like?

All the mountains have well defined paths up to the respective summits, however for
the most part they are steep and uneven and made up of steep steps cut into the
mountainside for the best part of the climbs. All are fairly well defined in clear conditions but people do get lost in mist or darkness.

Will I be climbing or walking?

With the exception of a small section of Scafell Pike that you may have to use your
hands as support in order to scramble up and down, all the routes you will undertake
are on well-marked paths.

What is the accommodation like?

We will stay in comfortable accommodation within the vicinity of Snowdon for one night at the beginning of the trip.

You will be sharing a room with an ensuite-bathroom. Rooms are twin and triple occupancy with a small number of single rooms, which carry single supplement charges, should one be requested.

Rooms are based on single sex occupancy; couples where possible will be kept together. We will ask you as our challenge date approaches whether there is someone in particular you would like to share a room with.

Many people come to these events on their own. Taking part in events such as these are a great way to meet new people and have proven in the past to build long standing friendships. For those of you arriving on your own, Advocate Events will endeavour to pair you up with another walker of the same sex and similar age.

What weather can I expect?

As with any outdoor event, we are unable to predict the weather so each participant
must be prepared for all eventualities. You will need to carry full wet weather gear
and warm layers with you on the day of the challenge.

The weather conditions at the bottom of the mountains may be vastly different to what we can expect at the top. In the past we have encountered everything from sunshine, snow and rain. A detailed weather forecast will be provided for us during the safety briefing before your ascent.
Should there be adverse weather conditions, we reserve the right to cancel or
change the route for safety reasons.

Do I need insurance?

Whilst we arrange the appropriate public liability and employer’s liability insurance we
strongly advise all participants to take out their own insurance to cover them for
personal possessions which can be arranged for around £10.

We also advise you take out insurance to cover the cost of the event should you become injured or unwell and have to cancel the trip after the cancelation period stated in your Terms and Conditions. If you require further information please contact us.

Due to the nature of this outdoor activity, participants should accept a certain element of risk. Our guides will do everything in their power to minimise the risks where possible. In the interests of safety all participants must abide by any decisions made by the
guides.
